Facebook notifies some Russian users of personal data leak
MOSCOW, Oct 23 (PRIME) -- Facebook has notified several Russian users of leakage of some their personal data because of a September cyberattack on the social network, according to the company’s statement seen by PRIME on Tuesday.
“As of today we’re aware that hackers received access to the following information of Facebook accounts: name and surname, main e-mail, the last added phone number. According to recent information, the hackers did not get access to passwords to accounts or data of payment or credit cards,” the social network said.
Facebook took immediate measures to protect accounts and is investigating the incident jointly with law enforcement authorities.
In late September, Facebook said it discovered a problem in the security system, which affected almost 50 million users of the social network. Perpetrators used vulnerability in Facebook’s code and stole access markers to hack users’ accounts.
